Different Psychology Subjects

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Louie_S]Louie S
Why did they do that? What were they thinking? How does their mind work? If these sound like questions you ask about people on a daily basis, you may be a great candidate for a psychology degree. Psychology is the study of how the human mind works. When studying psychology, you take a wide range of classes varying in subjects ranging from motivation, to perception, to brain functioning, emotional functioning, and interpersonal relationships. Each undergraduate course is designed to help you explore which field of psychology you would like to continue studying. And when it comes to psychology fields, there are many! There are 3 basic categories of psychology that you can study, each of which comes with several different sub-categories. Let us take a brief look at each.
The first main category is Academic Psychology. The fields within this category are the basic fields of psychology and are fields which are covered within any undergraduate psychology degree. These fields include abnormal psychology (the study of abnormal behaviors and disorders), biological (the study of how genetics, evolution, and physiology influence behavior), cognitive (the study of how internal processes help us understand our surroundings), developmental (the study of changes over time), personality (the study of human individuality), and social psychology (the study of how people relate to one another).
The second main category is Professional Psychology. These are the fields within psychology that each has a distinct career path. Each of these categories requires additional training and education. Included within the Professional field is clinical psychology (using psychological theories and practices to alleviate maladjustment and disabilities), counseling (the use of psychological practices to increase individual functioning), educational psychology (the application in an educational setting), forensic (the application in criminal law), health psychology (the study of how biology, behavior, and social context influence health), occupational psychology (the application of psychological theories and techniques to increase job effectiveness), and sport psychology (the study of how psychological aspects effect sports).
The third and final category is Popular Psychology. These are aspects of psychology that have not yet been categorized as 'professional' but are nonetheless still relevant to the field. These categories include child psychology, evolutionary psychology, transpersonal, military, psychology of risk, paranormal, psychology of music, political, prison, and positive psychology.
As you can probably see, this field is vast. There are many different areas in this field which you can choose to continue on studying after your undergraduate degree. Whichever field you choose to study, make sure to research it carefully. A PhD in this field can take years to attain, so you want to be sure that the field you choose will be a field that you can enjoy practicing for the rest of your life! Good luck to you and enjoy learning about the human psyche!

Scapegoating - The "Blame Culture" Who Refuses Deal With Their Shadow

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Avril_Meyler]Avril Meyler
Our culture is fond of finding scapegoats. This is evident whenever there is a crisis in society. The most recent riots and looting in London and other major cities in the UK have highlighted this. The crowds blame and bay for blood, revenge and punishments. One of the scapegoats at this time is single parents. Until someone is brave enough to step forward and say "wait a minute."
If there are significant groups within society who feel alienated, who have lost respect and any moral compass then clearly the situation needs to be addressed from a multidimensional perspective.
In the past few years we have had examples of dishonest and amoral behaviour from the Banking Industry, Politicians, Police and some major Newspapers. Add to this a consumerist celebrity driven culture and the breakdown of families then we have a recipe for trouble.
Everyone has a shadow side to deal with. Those who have done major psychological studies will have encountered the term "shadow." Our shadow side contains both personal and collective denial. Everything we do not wish to look at that causes confusion, pain or anger gets held in an interior rubbish bin. An incident or event may then trigger emotional movement; this in turn disturbs the rubbish, the contents of which are so ugly, messy and smelly that we dare not look at it much less sort it. So we bury it deeper and point the finger of blame at another for triggering us to get a glimpse of our darkness. Thus we create a scapegoat.
The misunderstanding of the shadow side of humanity creates wars, concentration camps, child abuse, paedophilia and a host of other conditions. It is delicate, and in the wrong hands dangerous work. You disturb the shadow at your peril. This is why a good qualified psychotherapist who is aware and deals with their own shadow side is a blessing. It is work that will not be undertaken by many because it demands such commitment and psychological pain. Were it different then we may have created a healthier world than the current spectre of wars, conflict and famine.
We have a responsibility both to ourselves, our families and our society to heal and become the best we can be. The alternative could be Armageddon. Creating an intelligent evolving Universe requires addressing in full awareness the personal and collective shadow which, when understood, works with and for us instead of against us.
""The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs, and explosions, and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, ideas, and prejudices, to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy. A thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all it's own for the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is, is that these things can not be confined to the Twilight Zone." Rod Serling

Making Good Decisions Based on Dream Interpretation

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Christina_Sponias]Christina Sponias
One of my online friends had a dilemma. He sent me a message asking my opinion about his problem. He didn't know if he should study on the University at his city (City 1) or should if he should study at the University of City 2.
I told him to ask this question to the unconscious mind. Dream interpretation according to the scientific method helps you always make good decisions. The unconscious mind that produces your dreams knows everything and answers all your questions.
My friend sent me two dreams that contained the unconscious answers to his question.
Here is my answer to his message:
Dear Friend,
The unconscious messages in your dreams were very clear.
Let me analyze your first dream:
"I saw you in my dream. We were sleeping in the living room of my parents' house, in the same bed (every night I sleep in this bed). In fact only you fell asleep, although we talked something a short time before. You practically didn't let me sleep because of your body position that was occupying all the bed and almost pushing me out of bed. You took my space."
The living room is an important place of your parents' house because it is the place where they receive visitors. This means that the unconscious mind is giving you an important lesson. The fact that we were sleeping at your parents' house indicates that you are being influenced by your anti-conscience (mother) and by your one-sided conscience (father).
I represent a part of your personality that is intelligent and can help you overcome your problems. I'm sleeping because this part of your personality is not really working - it is sleeping - this means that you are not paying real attention to this positive part of your personality because you are influenced by your anti-conscience and your one-sided conscience (your parents).
You were trying to hide me from your anti-conscience because you are afraid of your anti-conscience (your mother). I was occupying the biggest part of your bed because the positive part of your personality is influencing you a lot, even though this part is still not active enough (because I was sleeping).
This dream was basically showing you that you have to stop fearing your anti-conscience and give more importance to the positive side of your psyche (represented by me).
This was an answer to your question. The unconscious mind was showing you that you have to trust your positive side instead of being afraid of your craziness.
However, the truth is that the unconscious mind had already helped you make your decision in the old dream you had two months ago:
"I was in a train with 2 girls... I got along with those 2 girls (one of them looked nice) and I had a good time. I told them that I am going to study in City 1. They were very disappointed... They hoped that I would study in City 3. (City 3 is a beautiful city). However it's impossible for me to study in that city... I can study only in City 1 or City 2)."
The train indicates that you have no alternatives in life - your life is following the narrow route of a train that cannot be changed. The girls are related to the opposite sex, and the one you liked represented your anima. This dream is clearly showing you that if you'll study in City 1 you won't evolve; you'll merely follow a narrow life route that won't help you in any way.
The girls you'll meet in your life will be disappointed by the fact that you studied in City 1.
Therefore, you should study in City 2. City 3 represented City 2 in the dream. City 2 is a bigger, beautiful city. It is more interesting than City 1, which is your own city.
The unconscious mind was showing you in the dream you had about me that even though you know the right answer, you are still afraid of your craziness (your mother) and you cannot simply trust your judgment (the intelligent part of your personality that is sleeping).
You should have paid attention to the unconscious messages in the dream about the train and the 2 girls. It was clearly answering your question a long time ago.
.......
If you have a dilemma, you should make questions to the unconscious mind and wait for its answers in your dreams.
The wise unconscious mind will always help you make good decisions. You only have to pay attention to the unconscious messages in order to discover which options really are the best ones for you. You'll also understand why they are the best ones for your case. The generous unconscious mind gives you many explanations in each dream. All questions receive a clear answer.
Christina Sponias continued Carl Jung's research into the human psyche, discovering the cure for all mental illnesses, and simplifying the scientific method of dream interpretation that teaches you how to exactly translate the meaning of your dreams, so that you can find health, wisdom and happiness.

The Struggle Between Good And Evil

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Casey_M_Ringer]Casey M Ringer
Good and evil is conceptualized by the mind by what the conscience deems right and wrong. However, what a persons conscience will allow them to do usually has the opposite effect in others. This is where we see disagreement. Good begets good and evil begets evil right? This seems like a pretty straight forward statement but in the world these two powers have a way of mingling with one another so that there is no distinction. Like black and white to make the color gray.
Struggle for Peace (Equity)
Mankind struggles for equity in his choices but is never able to make the right ones without tipping the scale of his rational. If gray is all that we see, why do we need to make a distinction between black and white? If gray is all that we see, why do we need to make a distinction between what is good and evil?
There seems to be a discrepancy here doesn't there. This is because the distinction is not being made. People struggle with their choices because they are tied to the system of darkness. If you want to grow apples but you are given grape seeds, no matter your desire to grow an apple tree, you will always end up with a vineyard.
"Although God has given individuals the power to reason good and evil (the law being written within the heart), He has not given people the power to control either one." (Breaking the Antichrist Code Pg 196).
The Antichrist
What does the antichrist have to do with good and evil? A religious minded person might tell you that God is good and Satan is evil and they would be right! But for many this is a well known fact and a stigma in the minds of the people because of the lack of direction and experience given about it.Satan is evil, because he tried to set another record for God which is also called disobedience. We see this philosophy was also passed unto Adam through Satan's council, when Adam partook of the fruit of the tree of good and evil (Genesis 3:6). This is why the struggle between good and evil exists today.
The antichrist is Satan. He is evil and he is a spirit which rules the minds of those in his Kingdome. Much of who Satan is and his agenda is a mystery to mankind and he tries hard to keep it that way. In battle, knowing your enemies secrets can be a key factor in winning a war. Satan's success depends on our ignorance and his ability to control through it, but now, we have his code.

Forensic Psychology Programs

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Erik_R_Johnson]Erik R Johnson
As this new field emerges, forensic psychology programs will prepare students for exciting and rewarding jobs, such as criminal profiling, crisis management, jury selection, parental custody and visitation, police department counseling and more. If you are fascinated by psychology and passionate about criminology, this could just be the right educational path for you. There are several types of programs to choose from if you want to pursue a career in forensic psychology.
Education for a Career in Psychology
It will take several years of schooling, but if you dedicate yourself and put the effort and time in, there's no reason why you can't have a successful career in the challenging field of forensic psychology. Make sure to find an accredited school to get a bachelor's degree, for starters, because your degree will not get you very far if the school wasn't accredited and you probably won't qualify for any financial aid while you're attending such an institution. Most schools don't have a bachelor's degree in forensic psychology per say, but many do offer criminal justice degrees with an emphasis in forensic psychology.
A bachelor's degree will only get you into an entry-level position, but if you really want to have a prestigious career in psychology, you'll need to obtain a master's or doctoral degree in clinical psychology or a master's degree in criminology. There are various universities around the nation offering these programs, but it isn't necessarily a standard degree program that you'll find at every college. Several online universities offer forensic psychology master's programs, though, so there are still options available, even if there isn't a campus nearby offering a suitable program to pursue this career.
What to Expect after Graduating in psychology
Certified psychologists may apply for certification with the American Board of Forensic Psychology. Applicants must pass certain educational requirements and pass an examination.
There are several types of jobs in this field at crime scenes, police departments, in courtrooms or in a more traditional office environment. Salaries will vary, depending on where you choose to work. Forensic psychologists just starting out in the field earn a median salary of $53,500, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, those with 10 or more years of experience earn a median salary of $72,958 each year. Those who have the dedication to complete the education, training and experience for this challenging career can reap many professional rewards.

Root Cause of Suicide and Depression

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Casey_M_Ringer]Casey M Ringer
What causes suicide and depression? Spiritual death. Adam was created in the image and likeness of God and so, his heart vibrated with His virtue (peace, fellowship)(knowledge) but suffered separation anxiety when he disobeyed God's commandment and ate of the tree of good and evil. The Lord told Adam that he would die if he did this (Genesis 2:17). If you know the story, you know Adam did not physically die when he partook of the forbidden fruit but died spiritually (loss of light). It was this connection with God that Adam lost, which he also passed onto his seed (mankind).
Spiritual Death? What does that Mean?
"But when we came into this strange land, pure praise was no longer ours, nor righteous prayer, nor understanding hearts, nor sweet thoughts, nor just counsels, nor long discernment, nor upright feelings, neither is our bright nature left us. (1 Book Adam and Eve 23:7)
We can understand the concept of the connection or fellowship that Adam had with God through our own experiences with one another and our environment (things of the world): intimacy, friendship, loyalty, career, hobbies, through taste, smell, touch etc. However, these experiences do not bring completion to the soul because it is incompatible with the soul. Ignorantly, man is trying to find completion through these things. Man was created in the image and likeness of God, so his soul has to be filled with the substance of God by faith. Man can find temporary stratification in these activities but it soon wears off.
The Need for Rest
Incompatibility results in unrest and exhaustion. Like a fish out of water or swimming against the current. The soul was only designed for the things of the Spirit. So when man tries to fill it (bring completion) through the things of the world, it always comes back on him in a negative loop, compounding spiritual death to the point of madness.
The will is weakened by this activity and no longer has the drive for engagement (depression). In extreme cases, the soul is in such a state of unrest and contradiction, that a person thinks they can find it through suicide but this is never the answer. The reasons in both cases always vary but the need to escape death (it's effect) is the constant in every situation.
Sweet Thoughts
Being born into the condition of death, it is hard for man to understand what he was created for and the connection to God that was lost, that he subconsciously seeks for completion.
Gods revelation brings hope, not despair. Gods revelation gives strength to the will for faith, not bruise it. The joy, peace and rest that comes through this knowledge of that hope, lifts up our head and thankfulness fills the heart. This is the connection that God returns us to that Adam lost: the hope of his calling and how God will get us there.

Dreams About Rain or About A Storm

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Christina_Sponias]Christina Sponias
The rain is a positive dream symbol, which indicates that the dreamer found a solution to a certain problem. The meaning of this dream symbol was found thanks to Carl Jung's method of dream interpretation, which is the only correct one. Jung studied the meaning of all symbols in all civilizations of our history. My work proves that he was right, and shows you a lot more.
The rain and even the storm are very good signs. The storm represents a very important solution for a very big problem. It represents divine justice after pain.
The rain gives water to the dry earth. Without water, there is no life. We depend on the rain for many reasons.
The rain also cleans our dirty world. Its water is a true blessing. This is why it represents important solutions in dreams.
The appearance of this positive dream symbol in a dream will give you courage and hope. It's very good to discover the solution for a problem that you couldn't solve! The rain or the storm in a dream will give you relief and self-confidence.
You may immediately understand that you found the magical solution you were looking for like Archimedes, the known Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, and astronomer.
Archimedes stepped into a bath and noticed that the water level rose as he submerged a part of his body. He suddenly understood that he found a way to measure the volume of irregular objects with precision. He was so excited for finding this solution that he leapt out of his bathtub and he started running in the streets naked and claiming 'Eureka', a Greek word that means 'I found it'.
However, the 'Eureka' moment may not be so clear for you. Many times, you'll have to think about what is happening to you and your life in order to discover what solution you could finally find.
This happens because while you are making a research, you are involved in a big number of possibilities. You are dizzy, thinking about everything. Your mind is not clear. You may find the right answer somehow, but without understanding that you have really found the solution for a certain problem.
The rain in a dream will show you that you have really found the answer you were looking for. The unconscious mind will help you understand what you have found and why this finding will help you solve your problems.
The rain in a dream can also be a prediction. You may be about to discover what you need. In this case the dream symbol prepares you for finding a solution. It works like an alert.
A dream about rain or about a storm will make you pay attention to your reality, without forgetting that you are looking for a certain solution. You will have the serious attitude of a researcher, without being disconnected with your reality, thinking about something else. The rain in a dream reminds you that you have to pay attention to many details in order to finally find the solution you are looking for.
Christina Sponias continued Carl Jung's research into the human psyche, discovering the cure for all mental illnesses, and simplifying the scientific method of dream interpretation that teaches you how to exactly translate the meaning of your dreams, so that you can find health, wisdom and happiness.
